                    PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapy is the treatment and prevention of physical injury and diseases, which affect mobility and movement.  This service provides participants (depending on their needs) with treatment in the areas of:

v    Short term treatment for trauma e.g. Fractures or sprains, respiratory conditions

v    Maintenance therapy to prevent or slow deterioration of physical status

v    Mobility: walking, transferring

v    Mobility Equipment assessment, training and advice

v    Footwear, and splints assessment, advice and maintenance

v    Habilitation and rehabilitation: therapy to develop mobility skills

v    Early Intervention

PHYSIO IN A DAY PROGRAM

 

This program aims to increase or maintain mobility for people attending day programs or living in residential facilities. The physio will assess the clients, a physio program will be written out and the staff in these facilities will be instructed in how to carryout the program under the supervision of the physiotherapist.  The program will be regularly monitored and reviewed by the physiotherapist

 

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

 

Occupational Therapy aims to promote the individual’s ability to adapt to the demands of the environment and to cope constructively with normal and everyday tasks and activities.

 

v  Living situation

Ø     Advise on architectural home modifications

Ø       Adapt and design equipment used by clients in their daily living

Ø Assess, plan and implement programs including meal preparation, budgeting, travel training, menu planning, telephone, shopping and domestic skills training

Ø      Ergonomics – assessment and recommend suitable equipment

Ø      Design and adaptation of work tools

Ø      Behaviour management in the work place

v  Recreation

Ø      Advise on recreation resources

Ø      Assess adaptive skills associated with play/recreation
